How It Wears
Mikado is a heavier, firmer satin than most bridal fabrics, and it behaves differently for it — the skirt holds its own shape and swings away from the body instead of draping against it, so the A-line stays clean rather than clinging. The boning sits in a basque waist cut to a V, which drops the waistline below the natural one and gives you a longer line before the skirt starts. The train is cathedral length, so it is a real weight to carry and you will want it bustled for the reception.
What You Notice First
The waistline. Most corsets stop at the natural waist; a basque waist drops below it and comes to a point, so your eye follows a longer line before the skirt begins. Everything else — the square neck, the wide straps, the buttons running the length of the train — stays quiet next to it. That is why the gown can carry a cathedral train without looking heavy.
