Demetrios was founded in 1980 by Demetrios James Elias, who first learned the trade in his family’s bridal store and has spent more than four decades designing on his own terms; his daughter Eleni now helps carry the house forward. Its guiding idea, Modern Romantic, is a study in contrast — softness against strength, tradition against innovation. In practice that is a clean crepe silhouette under a heavily beaded bodice, or a classic ball gown cut in structured Mikado rather than soft tulle, across mermaid, A-line, and corseted shapes.

Demetrios shows its collections at Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week, the most watched runway in bridal, so the gowns on our floor reflect where the house is going rather than where it has been. Its 2027 collection, The Muse Within, moved one bride through past, present, and future — opulent heritage embroidery, then clean sculpted corsetry, then a deliberately open future. And it was Demetrios that helped make the two-in-one gown a bridal standard: detachable trains, overskirts, capes, and sleeves built as pieces in their own right, so one gown carries a bride from ceremony to reception.

Designer options versus in-house alterations

Designer-ordered options are chosen when you purchase your gown — we request them from Demetrios when we place your order on your behalf — and the changes reach deeper into the gown than a bride tends to imagine. A skirt or a bodice can be changed outright, the pattern reworked, the fabric itself changed. A train can be extended by half a yard or a full one, shortened, or removed to leave the gown floor length. Necklines can be modified front or back, a plunging V raised a measured few inches, a zipper turned into a corset. Boning can be added, sheer panels lined, buttons run over a zipper or along the hem of a train. A whole layer of sparkle can be laid over the gown — dot, sequin, glitter, or sparkle tulle, each catching light differently. Extended sizes can be ordered as well. What any particular gown allows will vary, and your consultant settles that with Demetrios on the spot when you purchase.
In-house alterations come after the gown arrives: the fit, the hem, a boned bodice refit without flattening the line it was built to hold. Our master seamstresses bring 40+ years of alterations expertise, in-house. Either way, the gown is ordered in a standard size from Demetrios’s own size chart and fitted to you in-house, never made to your exact measurements.

Are Demetrios gowns made to my measurements?
No. We measure your bust, waist, and hip, order the size that best fits your largest measurement from Demetrios’s own size chart, and our master seamstresses complete the fit in-house. A gown drawn and built from scratch is a separate service, and one we also offer.
What is Demetrios known for?
Drama, done with real construction. The Demetrios bride wants a gown that reads as a statement from across the room and still rewards a close look. Among couture houses it leans romantic rather than minimal, and the weight and structure are things you feel when you put one on.
Can I get two looks from one Demetrios gown?
Often, yes — it is one of the things the house is known for. Tell your consultant you want a convertible style, and she will pull the gowns designed to change between the ceremony and the reception and show you how the pieces come on and off.
What are your payment options?
We offer payment terms with no finance fees, which is worth knowing on a gown at this level. A dress from our floor can go on our Layaway Plan. One that has to be special ordered has our Special Order Payment Plan. A consultant will take you through both when you sit down with her.
How long do alterations take on a Demetrios gown?
Plan to begin your alterations 8 to 10 weeks before your portrait or wedding date. A heavily beaded gown can take longer, and your consultant will confirm the timing for your gown at the first fitting.
