Named after two children
Madison James is not a concept someone workshopped. Kelly Crum, who runs Allure, named the label after his daughter Madison and his son James — the son who now helps him run the company. It is a family business that put the family’s own names on its most personal line, which is a thing we recognize. The label was narrowed to bridal alone in 2022 and built around quiet luxury, a year or two before the rest of fashion decided quiet luxury was the point.

Our senior bridal consultants have spent 20+ years at Dimitra Designs, and our master seamstresses bring 40+ years of alterations expertise, in-house. They know how crepe behaves under a seam, where an architectural bodice will give and where it will not, and how much half an inch shifts the whole line of a column skirt. Their aim is to protect the designer’s geometry while making it sit correctly on you — which is the reason a Madison James gown reads as intentional rather than merely simple.
Designer options versus in-house alterations
Two different things get called personalization. Designer-ordered options are chosen when you purchase your gown and built by the house — and what any given style allows varies, so your consultant checks yours with the designer at the time you purchase. In-house alterations follow once it arrives: the fit, the hem, the line settled onto your body. Either way, the gown is ordered in a standard size from Madison James’s own size chart and fitted to you in-house, never made to your exact measurements.

Same design house, different temperament. Allure Bridals leans classic and glamorously romantic. Madison James is younger and more modern — concerned with line and structure rather than lace and sparkle. Both hang on our floor, which means a consultant can put them side by side and let the mirror settle an argument no photograph ever will.

Are Madison James gowns made to my measurements?
No. We measure your bust, waist, and hip, order the size that best fits your largest measurement from Madison James’s own size chart, and our master seamstresses complete the fit in-house. A gown drawn and built from scratch is a separate service, and one we also offer.
Can I add a detachable train or overskirt?
On many styles, and it should be ordered with the gown rather than after it. Placed on the same order the piece is cut alongside the dress; ordered later it comes from a different run, and the shade can drift. It is a small thing that shows up in photographs.
I want simple, but I’m afraid of looking plain. Is minimalist right for me?
Put one on before you decide. A well-cut minimalist gown reads as deliberate rather than bare, and it photographs cleanly against almost any backdrop. Brides who arrive certain they need lace are frequently the ones who leave in crepe.
What are your payment options?
We offer payment terms with no finance fees. A gown taken from our floor can go on our Layaway Plan; one that has to be special ordered goes on our Special Order Payment Plan. If you want more time to be sure, say so at your appointment.
