Designer options versus in-house alterations
Designer-ordered options are chosen when you purchase your gown, and we request them from Sophia Tolli when we place your order on your behalf. The back can be ordered as a corset or a zipper, whichever you prefer to be laced into or stepped into. A slit can be cut in or closed up. Skirt layers can be added, removed, or exchanged. Beading can come off or go on. A train can be shortened or let down, and lining set at the front, the back, or through the bodice. Detachable sleeves are offered on the styles built for them. Not every option is offered on every style, so your consultant confirms yours with the house at the time you purchase.
In-house alterations follow once the gown is here: the corseted back, the hem, the drape settled onto your body. Our master seamstresses bring 40+ years of alterations expertise, in-house, in the same building where you chose it. Plan to begin your alterations 8 to 10 weeks before your portrait or wedding date, and your consultant will confirm the timing for your gown at the first fitting. Either way, the gown is ordered in a standard size from Sophia Tolli’s own size chart and fitted to you in-house, never made to your exact measurements.

Sophia Tolli comes from a house we have carried for twenty-five years, so our seamstresses have worked this construction for a long time. A corseted back is refined differently from a zippered one — there is a place it wants to sit, a range it will hold, and a point past which it should not be pushed. No. We measure your bust, waist, and hip, order the size that best fits your largest measurement from Sophia Tolli’s own size chart, and our master seamstresses complete the fit in-house. A gown drawn and built from scratch is a separate service, and one we also offer.
Can I move and dance in a fitted plus-size gown?
Yes, and the construction is built for it. The stretch fabrics travel with you, the corset carries you through a long day rather than pressing in, and the skirts release where the movement actually is. The honest way to find out is to wear one: sit, rise, walk a few steps, and see whether the gown keeps up. It will.
Does the Curvy Collection come in Première?
The elevated tier of the same label: richer fabrics, dimensional lace at a larger scale, and more architecture in the construction. Curvy Collection styles appear in Première as well, so the tier is not a separate size story — it is the same fit thinking with more of everything.
What are your payment options?
We offer payment terms with no finance fees. Take one from our floor and it can go on the Layaway Plan; order one in and the Special Order Payment Plan covers it instead. Say so at your appointment if you want to spread it out, and a consultant will set up whichever fits your gown.
