Dimitra Designs began with one woman’s eye for design, construction, and fit. Before the current 15,000 sq ft Greenville location, before the seven division-specific spaces, and before generations of Carolinas families came through the doors, Dimitra Mandalas was creating custom gowns one-on-one from her home studio.
What grew from that beginning is now one of Greenville’s most established bridal and formalwear destinations, serving brides, mothers, prom, pageant, quinceañera, bridesmaids, tuxedo, and alterations customers from across the Upstate and the Carolinas.
From 730 S Pleasantburg to 303 N Pleasantburg

The Beginning
In the early years, Dimitra Mandalas worked closely with customers through custom design and gown production from her own home studio. Her work grew through word of mouth, built on fabric knowledge, construction skill, and the ability to understand how a gown should feel on the person wearing it.
In 1994, Dimitra Designs opened its first retail location at 730 S Pleasantburg Dr in Greenville, SC. That same year, Dimitra also acquired Brides & Beauties in Greer, expanding the early reach of the business while continuing to build the Dimitra Designs name.
Those first years shaped the foundation of the store: personal service, careful gown selection, and formalwear knowledge rooted in real design and construction.
A Larger Home for Every Formal Milestone
In 2007, Dimitra Designs moved to its current home at 303 N Pleasantburg Dr. The 15,000 sq ft location gave the business room to grow into a true multi-division formalwear destination.
Today, the store includes 47 fitting rooms, seven division-specific customer spaces, five dedicated bridal appointment areas, an in-store runway for prom and pageant, and in-house alterations led by master seamstresses.
The store now supports the way customers move through life’s formal milestones: wedding gowns, mothers of the bride and groom, prom, pageant, tuxedos, bridesmaids, quinceañera, debutante, and alterations.
Founder-Led From the Beginning
Dimitra Mandalas brings 40+ years in fashion design and bridal to the store she built. Her background in design, custom gown work, and formalwear construction still shapes how Dimitra Designs selects its collections today.
Dimitra personally chooses gowns by touch, looking closely at fabric, construction, movement, and fit before a style becomes part of the collection. That founder-led judgment remains one of the clearest differences between Dimitra Designs and a standard retail rack.
Dimitra Designs Today
More than 30 years after the business began, Dimitra Designs continues to serve Greenville from its 15,000 sq ft location on N Pleasantburg Dr. The store carries 2,500 garments across its divisions, including more than 1,000 wedding gowns, mother-of-the-bride and groom gowns, prom and pageant dresses, quinceañera gowns, bridesmaid dresses, tuxedo rentals and sales, and special occasion formalwear.
Senior bridal consultants with 20+ years at Dimitra Designs work one-on-one with brides, while master seamstresses support in-house alterations, transformations, and custom design. The scale of the store matters, but the heart of the business remains personal: helping each customer find the right garment for a meaningful moment.
Three Generations of Carolinas Families
Dimitra Designs has always been more than one shopping trip. Customers return across life stages, and families often come back for the next formal milestone.
A girl may first visit for pageant or prom, return years later as a bride, and come back again as a mother of the bride or groom. Many original brides now visit with daughters and granddaughters, carrying the relationship with Dimitra Designs into another generation.
That continuity is part of what makes the store personal. The gowns change, the occasions change, but the connection to families across Greenville, the Upstate, and the Carolinas continues.
Recognition and Community
Over the years, Dimitra Designs has been recognized beyond the sales floor, including the Diva Award for Best Retailer of the Year from AmericasMart Atlanta in 2006 and BBB A+ Accreditation.
The business also remains connected to the community through Greenville Fashion Week, A Night of Fashion, the Jaramillos Annual Gala, and sponsorships supporting Upstate high school athletics and PTSA activities.
