Eighty years, three generations
It began in Brooklyn in 1946, when Shirley and Ted Warshaw opened a shop making headpieces and veils for the brides of the postwar boom. Their son took the business into gowns and into Europe; their grandson, Justin Alexander Warshaw, runs it now as chief executive and creative director. The house marked its eightieth year in 2026 in Barcelona, staging the show around a sculptural oak that opened bare and finished in bloom. Warshaw put the idea plainly: his grandparents planted something in 1946, his father grew it, and a company like that needs roots to stand and new growth to survive. It is a family business dressing families, which is a thing we understand.

Two different things get called personalization, and they happen at different moments. Designer-ordered options are chosen when you purchase your gown, and there is more room here than most brides expect. A neckline can be raised or lowered a couple of inches, and a sweetheart softened or taken out altogether. A train can be lengthened by a foot and a half or a full yard, with buttons run down it in fabric or in crystal. A corset back can be turned into a zipper, or a zipper into a corset. Appliqués can be changed, and length adjusted to your height rather than to an average one. Detachable sleeves and straps and a detachable train are orderable on the styles built for them — and with this house one piece of advice matters more than any other: order those pieces with the gown, not later. On a single order they are cut from the same bolt and match exactly. Ordered months afterward they come from a later dye lot, and the shade can differ enough to see in a photograph. What a given style allows varies, so your consultant confirms yours with the designer at the time of purchase.
In-house alterations begin once the gown lands: the fit, the hem, and the work of restoring the line you saw on yourself in the mirror. Either way, the gown is ordered in a standard size from Justin Alexander’s own size chart and fitted to you in-house, never made to your exact measurements.
Fit and sizing
Justin Alexander builds across a wide size range, and it does not treat the larger end of it as an afterthought. Recent updates strengthened the internal structure and added boning through the larger sizes, and the bust cups were re-engineered for a softer hand and a smoother line. Illusion tulle and cups can be matched to your skin rather than left to approximate it.

Snugly, by design. Justin Alexander cuts strapless bodices with minimal ease so they stay flush and support you without straps. Pronounced back or shoulder musculature changes how that bodice sits, so you should be measured and fitted with it in mind rather than sized from a chart alone. It is one of the clearest cases for being fitted in person.
Are Justin Alexander gowns made to my measurements?
No. We measure your bust, waist, and hip, order the size that best fits your largest measurement from Justin Alexander’s own size chart, and our master seamstresses complete the fit in-house. A gown drawn and built from scratch is a separate service, and one we also offer.
Can the illusion tulle and cups match my skin tone?
Yes. Illusion tulle and bust cups can be ordered in Mocha, Caramel, and Latte. Your consultant will hold them against you and pick the one that disappears.
My gown’s lace looks slightly different from the sample. Is something wrong?
Almost certainly not. Brocade, jacquard, and silk vary naturally in color and weave between dye lots, and a floor sample shifts a little over a season. Within the designer’s tolerances that is a characteristic of the material rather than a defect — and it is something we would rather explain before your gown arrives than after.

We offer payment terms with no finance fees. A gown you take from our floor can go on our Layaway Plan; one that has to be special ordered goes on our Special Order Payment Plan instead. Tell a consultant what you need and she will walk you through which one fits.
