Molded bust cups come in a range of skin-tone shades, comfort-stretch linings appear in the slim and fitted styles, and illusion tulle is offered in shades chosen to suit different skin tones. Generous seam allowance gives a seamstress room to work rather than fight the seam. The glamour is the surface; the construction is why it holds up through a whole reception.
What can be changed on a Stella York gown
More than most brides expect — and the changes belong to two different hands. Designer-ordered options are decided before the gown is built: sleeves or no sleeves, beading or none, pockets, and a special hem ordered to a specific length. In-house alterations are ours, once it arrives: refining the fit, drawing on that seam allowance, hemming an unattached lace edge, adjusting cups and support. Your consultant will tell you which lever to pull for the gown you love. Either way, the gown is ordered in a standard size from Stella York’s own size chart and fitted to you in-house, never made to your exact measurements.
Special hems for petite and tall brides
Select Stella York styles can be ordered with a special hem, cut to a specific length rather than shortened afterward. It matters more than it sounds: on a gown with a lace border or a tiered skirt, hemming later can compress proportions that were designed for a particular height. Ordering the length means the skirt is built for you. Where a special hem isn’t offered, many gowns carry an unattached lace hem — a small design decision that makes hemming markedly simpler for our seamstresses, and cleaner in the finished gown.

Our senior bridal consultants have spent 20+ years at Dimitra Designs, and Stella York has been on this floor for its entire existence. That is a long time to watch one label on real bodies. It is how a consultant knows which bodices take sleeves and which fight them, how the sparkle tulle photographs under a flash versus in afternoon light, when to order the special hem instead of hemming later, and which cup shade disappears under an illusion neckline. Bringing in a style you’ve seen
A store cannot keep a designer’s whole collection on the rack. If the Stella York gown you’ve saved is available from the designer, we can often request it through the loaner program and have it here for your appointment. It takes advance planning — call ahead and we’ll talk through that specific style.

What brides ask about Stella York
I’m petite. Will a Stella York gown overwhelm me?
Not if the length is ordered rather than cut. Select styles offer a special hem made to your height, so the skirt’s proportions are built for you instead of shortened toward you. Tall brides use the same option in the other direction. Your consultant will know which styles allow it.
Can I have a Stella York gown without the sparkle?
Often, yes. Select styles can be ordered with or without beading, and with or without sleeves — decisions made when the gown is ordered. The silhouette you love does not obligate you to the embellishment on the sample.
Do Stella York wedding dresses have pockets?
Many do. Ask your consultant to pull the styles with pockets when you book; they are easy to miss on a hanger and hard to give up once you find them.
How is Stella York different from Essense of Australia?
Temperament, not engineering. Both come from the same house and share its construction and sizing standards. Essense reads timeless; Stella York reads glamorous. Trying both is the fastest way to learn which one you actually are.
Will the sparkle photograph well?
Sparkle tulle behaves differently under a flash than in daylight, which is worth seeing in person before you commit. That is a conversation to have in the fitting room with someone who has watched these gowns photograph for years.
